1. The render que is a module inside AE that gives us total control to export our animations. You can access it by selecting a composition, and then go to the comp. menu and select Add to Render Queue

2. When it comes to exporting, resolution in AE is the size of the composition/project that you’ve been working on.

3. You would use clipnotes to use pdf technology to be able to send your video out for client review. Another program that AE uses clipnotes with is Acrobat. Clipnotes work by making pdf files into video files.

4. You can export multiple sources by going to the output module and clicking what you want to export it as. You duplicate by clicking Command+D

5. The shortcut to add a sequence to the render que is Control+Shift+/.

6. The thing that plays the biggest role in quality and file size when exporting is the format in which you export it.

7. CODEC stands for compression/decompression.

8. The purpose of dialogue in Adobe Media Encoder is to find a specific encoder.

9. Device central allows us to preview content whether it’s still images or video inside mobile devices.

Chapter 17

1. Working in 3d means that you can move things in 3 dimensions.

2. You can enable 3d by going to the column with the cube and clicking it. The values for 3d are the x value, y value, and z value.

3. X, Y, and Z represent dimensions on the image.

4. The colors that correspond to 3d are red, green, and blue.

5. You typically don’t want to animate in 3d because it will alter the orientation of the image.

6. Null object is ‘fill in’ for a regular layer that doesn’t really do anything.

7. What happens when you parents objects to the children layers is that the children inherent all the properties of the parent objects on the layer.

8. 3d per character animation allows you to make the text 3d.

9. You must enable Per-Character 3D.

10. What you need to do to make sure a layer can cast shadows is that you must first select cast shadows in the light settings, then you must make the layer(s) 3d, then the shadows will appear.

11. View ports work by allowing you to view the composition by multiple angles. They are for seeing your composition from multiple points of view and allow you to alter the composition from different views.

12. The difference between local and world axis modes is

Chapter 18

1. You can import a ps file into AE by going to import file then clicking once on the psd file you want. Then you click import as: composition.

2. What happens if you choose composition from the import as a selection is that you import the image as well as all the layers. For composition cropped layers it imports it as the image, but all the layers are smaller. For footage it imports it with all the layers smushed together in the image.

3. All the stuff AE will recognize include layers, visibility, opacity, layer blend modes, alpha channels, layer masks, adjustment layers, groups (aka folders), vector clipping paths, layer styles, guides, clipping groups, text (if converted), and video layers.

4. You can apply layer styles in AE by right clicking on the layer, go to layers styles submenu, and there is a list of layer styles.

5. You can make text layers coming over from ps editable in AE by going to the layer menu, then click select: Convert to Editable Text.

6. You can export a frame as a layered ps file by going to Composition menu, then Save Frame as, then click Photoshop Layers…

7. Some of the creative things you can do going between AE and ps include the ability to make 3D objects such as cubes or spheres. Also you can make the 3D objects glow.

1. One of the tools that lets you see audio is the waveform a property under the audio layer, which allows you to see the wavelength of the audio as the sound waves go up and down.

2. Markers are points on a audio or animation clips that allow you to see certain sections of a clip or audio. You can use them by selecting the shield icon and dragging it to any place on the timeline. Then you can press the number that corresponds to any of the markers to automatically jump to it.

3. Two audio effects are backwards, which allows you to play a audio clip backwards, and delay, which allows you to duplicate the clip so it plays over and over before contiuing.

4. You can create audio to keyframes by right clicking on the audio, go to Keyframe Assistant, then Convert Audio to Keyframes. This will make it so that the image animation and audio move and play at the same time and at the same speed.

5. An example of how you would use keyframes and expressions to create audio driven effect is by linking the audio and image together so that when the music plays, as the sound goes up and down, the image zooms in and out.

1. You can trim a clip by going to either edge of the video clip and dragging it to the left or right.

2. The keyboard shortcut to make the clip go back to frame 0 is Option Home, or Alt Home.

3. The keyboard shortcut to trim an inpoint and outpoint is Alt and then the left bracket key. What happens when you click I is that you jump to the inpoint of the current layer and when you hit O you jump to the outpoint of the layer.

4. If you Alt Double Click on a fim clip it will open up in a panel, for example, if you alt double click a video clip, it will open up in a footage panel.

5. The difference between the footage and layer panel is that a footage panel is where you can see video and a layer panel is where you can alter a layer for a clip or image.

6. The slip edit function is for keeping the inpoints and outpoints the same and just slips the content around. Also it changes the content that is before or after the clip.

7. You can split a layer by going to Edit and then Split Layer. You would do this if you wanted to alter an image or film clip by placing an image or other clip into another one.

8. Stretching is used for shrinking or extending the time of a layer, which alters the speed of the clip or animation.

9. You can mask objects by going to the shapes area in the toolbar and hold down the mouse button to select a shape and once you click and drag the shape, you’ll mask the image(s) or parts of an image.

10. You can create a track mask by making the text or image a part of the clip.

11. A garbage mask is an initial mask to make keying easier.

12. A keylight is used for getting rid of colors.

13. You can remove a green screen in AE by selecting the keylight effect and clicking the eyedropper tool and click on the green screen and it will change to black. From here it can be changed and altered to look like something else.

1. You can create a text box by clicking the text tool and clicking and dragging a box for typing in, and you can accept the text you write in the box by hitting enter on the numeric keypad or by clicking the selection tool.

2. What happens when you hold all the modifier keys is that it automatically makes something happen, for example, by hitting control alt shift T, which allows you to automatically get a text box.

3. Auto-open-panels show all the panels associated with whatever you are using, for exmaple, if you highlight any text, it will show all panels that have to do with text.

4. Leading is the distance between lines in a paragraph, and it got it’s name from an old printer’s technique where they would insert pieces of lead between type stamps.

5. Tracking is the space between all the characters of text on the line.

6. You can animate portions of text by using effects in the Effects panel, or by adding properties to the layer.

7. The wiggly selector is for making the value of opacity and randomly adding it in different places. Basically it randomly places the property in the image or text.

8. You can get to the text animation presets by going to File, browse, and opening Adobe Bridge. Then you go to presets folder.

2. You can turn off all effects without deleting them by clicking the fx button on the layer.

3. Motion Blur is when the camera doesn’t capture the motion well enough, so it blurs.

4. CC stands for CyCore

5. Some of the things you can do with blur effects include that you can make images move and blur as they move.

6. Some of the things you can do with distort effects include being able to bloat things, expand, pucker, twirl, and smudge things.

7. Some of the things you can do with light effects include glow, flare, and light sweep.

Part 2

1. Shatter is an effect that that auto animates the image that shatters the image into pieces.

2. The camera position allows you to see different sides of the picture image.

3. Some color correction tools in After Effects are Levels, which corrects luminates values, Hue Saturation, which corrects color saturation, and Tint, which allows you to ‘map’ black to a color or take black away from a color.

3. The brainstorm tool is used for playing around and experimenting with different settings without hurting or messing up the composition.

4. Some of the things you can do with the paint tool are that you can paint with it, you can change the size of the brushes, you can have several effects for the brush strokes, and they can be scaled.

5. Write on is used for recording your painting and the speed at which you painted.

2. Four total things that carry over when parenting are position, scale, rotation, and anchor point.

3. The thing that you would click and drag to change the motion path is the bezier path.

4. I would add a keyframe to the motion paths by using the pen tool when going over the small dots on the path and clicking when I see the little plus.

5. The graph editor is a high-end animation tool in after effects.

3. Easy ease out is when the keyframe starts slow and then speeds up, and you can select it by hitting U on the keyboard to see it.

4. Easy ease in is when the keyframe starts out fast and slows down.

5. Easy ease is when you want the image to move at a certain speed to start and finish with.

6. Motion sketch is when you make a path for an image to move on, which also records the speed in which the image moves, either fast or slow.

7. The wiggler allows you to create random values for properties. For example, if you apply a wiggler to a text, you can make it move all over the place.

8. The smoother allows you to smooth a path so it’s less sloppy.

9. Spatial path is where an object is and a temporal graph is basically where it is over time.

10. Motion tracker is a tool that allows you to stabilize an image so that it isn’t moving around as much anymore.

11. Auto orientation is when the image turns to follow a path.

12. Expressions are basically after effects coding language. Also it’s where a option, for example, scale, is added to a function of the image, for example, rotation.

1. Animating the rotation property affects your comp by making image look like it’s spinning.

2. Animating anchor property affects your comp by changing where the position of the point for the image is, and is important because it is where the animation for the image will go around, for example, if you spin an object, it will spin around the anchor point. Also, if you have the anchor point in the middle of something and want to expand it, it will expand away from the point, so you will have to put the anchor point at the bottom, top, or sides if you want it to expand in another direction.

3. It is important not to animate the anchor point after animating the position because the position value will change.

4. The work area is where the keyframes and other time periods are located for the media and picture animations, and can be set by opening it in the window dropdown in the menu bar.

5. Some of the shortcuts to use in the work area are B for the beginning of the work area, N for the End of the work area.

6. The keyframe navigator is used for naviagating keyframes.
